Born in Guernsey, Channel Islands in 1980 Fleur started studying ceramics at the age of 14 and completed a BA hons degree from Brighton University nearly ten years later in 2003.
Fleur lives and works in London, and pursues the many avenues of working as an artist, teaching, exhibiting, craft making....etc ....With her one main objective to become a recognized fine-art ceramic artist and to be apart of Ceramic's progression towards being recognized as a fine art medium.
Since graduating Fleur has exhibited her work in the UK, in London, in Kent and Guernsey and has worked on commissions for other artists and designers as a maker. Also in recognizing the potential for ceramics endless creative possibilities and the focus skills required when applying ones self to the medium Fleur set up her own small business as a ceramics tutor, putting on workshops to adults after work on a week-day night. She also now teaches to kids in school about her life as an artist and her work practice.
My work focuses itself on creating innovative, original form based on the intricacies of the body, its elegance and dynamism. It constantly engages in the solidarity of the material, and progresses towards the portrail of beautiful contours and curves and. Part purpose of my work is to reflect this in its construction as well as creating a statuesque presence. I have a loose afflation with the feminine form as it is the kind i possess and naturally I am inspired by the human form, in particular the abstract forms that occur naturally within It.
For example where the collarbone juts from meeting the neck to the shoulder, or where the shoulder blade draws down the back to meet the ribs and then the protruding hips.
As well as my personal response to form, I also use photography as a medium to document ideas and visualize new work. My method of making, essentially has not changed from the simple method of hand-coiling learnt at school when I was 15; building up the shape in stages, adjusting and manipulating the form as I construct, but within this method my style of working has continued to develop itself with exciting results.
Thank You for reading and I hope you enjoy the website as much as I did putting it all together.
